Matthew Adendorff

Lead Technologist, Open Data Durban






Matthew is the Lead Technologist, and head of the Civic Data Lab at Open Data Durban, a civic technology not-for-profit start-up in Durban, South Africa. Here he works to realize people-centered participatory democracy through the application of cutting edge data-science, machine-learning, and focused user-engagement. He is also the co-founder of Tenji, a high-performance machine-learning lab that leverages technology to power compound, evidence-based insights.

Matthew completed his BSc(Hons) and MSc in Computational Chemistry at Rhodes University in South Africa, after which he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a Fulbright Scholarship, obtaining his PhD in Computational Bioengineering in 2016. In his spare time he is an appreciator and brewer of beer.
