Matias Donoso

Executive Director, Coclus

Latin America

Chile has 830,000 people with a hearing impairment. Matias Donoso and his team at Coclus are working to address the isolation of young deaf people in Chile due to fear, insecurity, and family uncertainty. Matías was born with a severe hearing impairment and uses a hearing aid and a cochlear implant himself. His own experience in living with the positive and negative aspects of his disability guided the creation of his venture. Coclus runs a support network for the hearing impaired through a virtual platform where doubts can be resolved, experiences shared, and psychological support received, all in sign language.
