Martin Dober

Managing Director, Invest Detroit Ventures

Martin is senior vice president at Invest Detroit and managing director of its venture arm, Invest Detroit Ventures. As managing director, he manages investments through three funds: Detroit Innovate, a late seed-stage venture capital fund; First Step Fund, a mid-seed fund; and First Capital Fund, a pre-seed/genesis fund. He is a co-founder of the Hacker Fellows program, launched by Invest Detroit to place computer science talent into startups in Michigan. He also leads the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition, the state’s largest business plan competition. Martin was previously senior vice president of entrepreneurship and innovation for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, where he directed all entrepreneurial programs under the state‚Äôs 21st Century Jobs Fund. Prior to this, Martin held senior positions in several small technology companies, including iRobot, American Systems Technology, Inc., and EIP, Inc. His career also includes startup consulting at the SBDC, mergers & acquisitions at Delphi, corporate finance at Chrysler, and manufacturing engineering at the Budd Company. Martin received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University (formerly GMI) and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
