José Rafael Paz Calles is a chemical engineer graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) in the USA.
He started his career as a process engineer at Diamond Shamrock in its specialty chemicals unit in Charlotte, North Carolina. USA. He spent more than 28 years in Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) as Technical and Operations Manager in Refining and as business manager, director, Vice President and President of PDVSA’s Petrochemical subsidiary. He retired as Vice-president and Director of the Board of Directors of PDVSA with responsibilities in Petrochemical, Corporate Finance and Strategic Planning.
From April 2012, he has advised Start-Ups of WAYRA (TELEFONICA accelerator) in Venezuela, Peru and Chile, in total he has collaborated with more than 100 Star-Ups and SMEs. He has acted as advisor to the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) in the identification of best entrepreneurial practices in the WAYRA Academies in Peru and Venezuela and to SWISSCONTACT in Peru, for the evaluation of seven Start-Ups accelerators of the ecosystem of technological ventures in Peru.
He is a co-founder of PREMIUN PRAXIS SpA, a consulting firm, registered in Santiago, Chile, which provides services to small and medium-sized companies and Start-Ups in new business developments and business innovation.
