Jai Natarajan is VP, Marketing and Strategic Business Development, at iMerit, a social impact for-profit company. iMerit works with leaders in AI to annotate data, while empowering women and youth in underprivileged communities to join the digital economy. 80% of its employees come from family incomes of under $100 per month and 50% are women. iMerit is funded by Omidyar Network, Khosla Impact and Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.
Throughout his career Jai has juggled creativity and technology. Before joining iMerit he founded Xentrix, Asia’s fastest growing animation studio. Xentrix creates Emmy-winning television and theme park content for top global brands like Lego, Disney, Angry Birds, and Warner Brothers.
He began his career working on Oscar-nominated special effects at Lucasfilm. He then built the very first mobile photo and video apps at Sony. Jai then headed Marketing for Maya Entertainment, where he helped turn around the animation studio and education businesses, resulting in a sale to Aptech.
Jai is a graduate of BITS, Pilani, with an MS from UCLA and a Certificate in Business from UC Berkeley. He serves on the board of Anudip Foundation, a livelihood development non-profit that trains thousands of marginalized youngsters in digital skills.
Why did you decide to be an IIC judge?
I benefited hugely from participating in IIC 2018. That and the amazing organising team made me eager to contribute to the movement.
